Dragons Head to Minnesota!

It’s true – the dragons of the Pacific Northwest are going to explore the snowy wilds of Minnesota!  It appears they have some cousins who live in Lake Superior.  Only problem is that they may be hibernating in the deep waters of the lake by the time they get there.  But their author (that’s me) will be living in the Twin Cities for a couple of months, doing some presentations at the local Barnes and Noble in Maple Grove, MN and visiting some schools.   You can see the schedule on the events page of nwdragons.com

There was a great article about me in the South Whidbey Record, our local paper.  You can read it on  nwdragons.com

Teaching kids to paint dragonsIn the past few weeks I’ve had a lot of fun visiting a couple of schools in the Seattle area and sharing my dragon presentation with 5th graders.  I start with some great slides of  the wild coast of Washington and it makes my heart sing to see pictures of Shi Shi on the screen.  Teachers love it when I share how the story and the book came about.  Finally I do a sumi-e painting demonstration which everyone loves.  At the end the kids get to try their hand at painting with water on special vanishing paper which turns black when wet only to have the image disappear as the paper dries.  I guess the paper should be called “vanishing image” paper!
